Princess New Zealand
Kia Ora
Many years ago we ventured to New Zealand, the Land of the Long White Cloud. Princess Cruises is adding a bit of Kiwi flavor to their cruises visiting this must-see destination.
This flavor not only includes food, but also culture.
The Food
Not all of the dishes that we came to love in New Zealand appear on the menu, but they do have a fine selection of lamb dishes and other traditional offerings. Noticeably absent is Pavlova, a dessert and Devonshire Creams – a decadent scone with clotted cream and jam. We wonder if they will have spaghetti sandwiches – a type of lunch food that we had never considered before visiting New Zealand. Make an effort to find the Devonshire Creams with a spot of tea on shore.
The Drink
You can’t get a real taste of New Zealand without trying some of the wines. NZ brews will also be served in the bars.
The Entertainment
Movies like The Piano and Lord of the Rings will be showing on the television and screens. Where is Whale Rider? Now, that’s a movie that gives real insight into the Maori culture and traditions.
Doesn’t look like they will be adding a cricket pitch or lawn bowling green to their ships while there, but it’s always possible that you might encounter one of these games while in port.
Culture
Maori performances will take place both on board and in port. If you are planning a trip to New Zealand, be sure to read about Maori history before you depart.
Nature
You can’t go far in NZ without experiencing nature. Penguins, fjords, glaciers, rainforests and mountains define this country that supposedly has characteristics of several other countries combined into NZ’s two main islands.
If you haven’t been to NZ, please contact us for advice and port info as we have been there several times and know the country well.
